CNN —One of the earliest books in existence is expected to fetch upwards of $2.6m when it goes up for auction later this year. The Crosby-Schøyen Codex, which was written in Coptic on papyrus in Egypt, is the earliest Christian liturgical book, according to the international auction house Christie’s, which will be holding the sale in London on June 11. Carbon dating suggests the book dates back to sometime between the middle of the 3rd and 4th centuries. One of the earliest witnesses to the spread of Christianity, the codex features the first epistle of Peter and the Book of Jonah. As such, the codex is the oldest known book in private hands.

NEW YORK (AP) — Cher is obviously a superstar but even a superstar can be the opening act when it comes to Santa. Organizers of this year's Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade have nabbed the Oscar-, Emmy- and Grammy Award-winner for their 97th annual event. Cher will make her appearance just before the parade's end, signaled by the arrival of Santa’s sleigh, parade organizers said. This year’s parade will feature 16 giant character balloons, 26 floats, 32 novelty and heritage inflatables, 12 marching bands, 700 clowns and eight performance groups. Other marching bands this year will represent Alabama, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Texas.

Compania farmaceutică germană BioNTech a publicat primele date privind aplicaţia preclinică a principiului din spatele vaccinului său anti-COVID-19 care ar putea trata bolile autoimune, printre care şi scleroza multiplă, relatează EFE și Agerpres. Într-un studiu publicat vineri de revista “Science” compania arată că a reuşit să dezvolte un vaccin ARNm testat pe “modele complexe de scleroză multiplă la şoareci” unde s-a observat că suprimă boala. Compania, care alături de americanii de la Pfizer a dezvoltat unul dintre vaccinurile aprobate împotriva COVID-19, notează că aceasta este prima aplicaţie a tehnologiei sale ARNm pentru a induce o imunomodulaţie specifică de antigeni în bolile autoimune. Vaccinul se bazează pe tehnologia acidului ribonucleic mesager (ARNm), prin care se pot injecta în corp instrucţiuni sau molecule ce pot determina celulele să producă anumite proteine. În cazul vaccinului împotriva COVID-19, BioNTech şi Pfizer au folosit ARNm pentru a produce proteina S (Spike) a coronavirusului SARS-CoV-2, “cheia” folosită de noul virus pentru a pătrunde în celulă.
